New Life for an Old Friend

By the mid-2010s, Bingham High School — our beloved alma mater (a Latin phrase meaning "nourishing mother") — was beginning to show her age. Opened in 1975, she was now over forty years old. Leaks were common, and teachers often arrived in the morning to find water dripping from classroom ceilings.

As the Jordan Board of Education contemplated what to do, they concluded they had two options: Tear the building down and build a completely new school, or remodel the current building. A thorough examination revealed that the shell of the school was in great condition. The Board decided that a remodel was the best option. They committed $40 million over the next five summers to give the old school a new life.

Phase 1: Summer 2019

A "pipe-breaking" ceremony in May of 2019, kicked off phase one, which focused on the math and science departments, the upstairs restrooms, and fine arts area. The choir and band rooms were significantly expanded.

Phase 2: Summer of 2020

The second summer of Bingham's overhaul focused on the CTE classrooms west of the main hall.

Phase 3: Summer of 2021

Summer #3 brought a remodel of the auditorium and the upstairs classrooms and hallways.

Phase 4: Summer of 2022

The largest and most expensive stage of the remodel focused on the main and attendance office relocations, main hall, art rooms, and media center. Bingham's unusually large media center was reduced, making room for new counselor offices and a new tech atrium, accessible from both the main level and the upstairs.

Phase 5: Summer of 2023

The final phase of the massive project significantly improved the cafeteria, gym and all of the athletic areas.
